NIH Public Access Policy

What's mine is yours, sort of

"Beginning April 7, 2008, all Principal Investigators funded by the NIH must submit an electronic version of their final, peer-reviewed manuscripts, upon acceptance for publication, to the National Library of Medicine’s PubMed Central. These must be made publicly available no later than 12 months after the date of publication." Read more about the NIH Public Access Policy here: http://www.lib.uci.edu/scamp/nih-guide.html

U.S. Government Recalls

Hi, recently I received an email pointing me to a product recalls page from different United States Government agencies (http://www.recalls.gov). This is a great resource, and if you're interested you can not only search the page for past/current recalls, but you can be alerted via email when new recalls are announced (http://www.recalls.gov/list.html).

The FDA has created a page talking about the recall of peanut products (http://www.fda.gov/oc/opacom/hottopics/salmonellatyph.html).

Internet Woes

For some reason, the web was going crazy today and Manual of Nursing Practice was unavailable for an hour or so this morning. It's working now, but I thought it was a good opportunity to remind you that in case a UCI Library resource isn't working, or you don't have access to a resource, anything like that, make sure you send me an email, give me a phone call, or contact someone at the UCI Libraries. Because odds are, you'll see it before we do!

Ch ch ch ch changes

I don't often quote David Bowie, but this post calls for it! In the coming days (possibly weeks, sometimes change takes a glacial pace) you may notice a shift in how content is pushed out from me. I'm hoping to consolidate some of the contact points so it is easier for everyone to figure out where everything is. Novel concept, eh? Anyway, I'm going to be retiring my part of the EEE wiki (using a wiki doesn't make lots of sense when nobody changes anything!), and while the UCI Library's subject guide still exists, I'm going to focus my time on using something called "libguides." You can see the one for nursing here. You'll notice LOTS of similarities between it and the UCI Library Subject Guide, but I hope you'll also notice some added benefits. Such as the feed of UCI Nursing Faculty publications from PubMed, and some other RSS goodness (click here to get an idea of the kinds of things I want to do).

I want to make sure I'm providing you with useful content, so please feel free to comment here, or add content on the Nursing Libguide, or send me an email, give me a call (949.824.3174), or hand me a suggestion on paper. Any of those work!

Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice is here!!

I'm very excited that the online version of the Lippincott Manual of Nursing Practice is up and ready to go!! HOORAY!!! I want to thank everyone for waiting very VERY patiently as we licensed access to this product, and I hope you're all happy with it!

You can find a link to it on this page, and remember, if you're off campus you'll need to log in with the VPN. If you can't remember how to do that, I posted about it earlier. Hopefully that helps!

Information Overload?

Here's an article from Nurse.com written by John Leighty, discussing how some nurses utilize medical librarians. Make sure you let me know if you're approaching information overload!!!
